Our Dorothy Moller Honored – Twice

Honorary Doctorate

Few of her friends know of this honor, but in May, 1997, highly regarded Hillsdale College, conferred upon Dorothy Moller the degree of Doctor of Humanitarian Service. Dorothy has supported this college and served on their Board of Trustees for many years. Hillsdale College, located in Michigan, is one of the very top Liberal Arts schools in the United States. Their website, www.hillsdale.edu, is worth visiting to see how higher education should be handled.

Distinguished Service Award

This award is described in the U. S. Air Force Academy program as follows:
Colonel Joseph and Dr. Dorothy Moller are awarded the 2003 Distinguished Service Award for outstanding service and unfailing support to the United States Air Force Academy. The Mollers' personal commitment to academic and military excellence at the Air Force Academy has spanned over two decades and supported numerous Academy programs. When Colonel Moller passed away in 1993, Dr. Dorothy Moller continued to be a stalwart supporter of the Academy, contributing her time and resources to many important philanthropic endeavors. In 1989, the Mollers established the Superintendent's fund through the Association of Graduates to support the needs of the Superintendent in furthering the goals and objectives of the Air Force Academy. Dr. Moller has continued to fund this generous gift annually. In addition, the Mollers established the first major planned gift the Academy received which will play a critical role in meeting its needs in perpetuity. Dr. Moller was also a founding member of the Sabre Society, and the first member to join at the "patron" level. Furthermore, she is an active and supportive member of the Falcon Foundation Board of Trustees and the Academy Research and Development Institute Board of Directors. In addition to their tremendous support of the Air Force Academy, the Mollers have also helped fund several museums in the United States and England to preserve the heritage of thousands of airmen who fought and died in combat over Europe. As a result of both Colonel and Dr. Moller's generous financial support through the years, and Dr. Dorothy Moller's continued financial support and advocacy, the United States Air Force Academy will be able to continue to fund programs of excellence. Without a doubt, Colonel and Dr. Moller are extremely deserving recipients of the 2003 Distinguished Service Award.

Dear General Hornburg:

It is a pleasure to hear from you again with the information about this year’s winner of the Moller Trophy. As I wrote to you last year, my husband’s group, the 390th Bomb Group (H) is still holding their yearly reunions.

I know this year’s winner will give them an additional feeling of pride with Brigadier General Dale C. Waters, Commander, 363d Air Expeditionary Wing, at the Prince Sultan Air Base, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

One of our descendants, Don Brooks, has acquired a B-17, and it is now being restored. When completed it will be flown in connection with the big air shows, and be painted as a 390th Bomb Group plane. We are all very excited about this project.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Joseph A. Moller
