ROBERT W. WALTZ HAS BEEN APPROVED FOR INDUCTION INTO THE ARIZONA AVIATION HALL OF FAME, SCHEDULED FOR APRIL 3, 2003
By John S. Warner
For a few years, I have awaited this news. Most of us will remember the joint 390th Association/Foundation Newsletter, Vol. 11, No. 1, Spring 1995, which recorded the fact that the 1995 reunion in the fall would be the "1995 REUNION TO RECOGNIZE ROBERT W. WALTZ." This was not to be - Bob Waltz died September 6, 1995.
Many of us believed that Bob deserved to be recognized and should appropriately be honored for his accomplishments. Obviously, the 390th Memorial Museum is a permanent manifestation of his grand thinking of a permanent reminder for future generations of the deeds and sacrifices of the men of the 390th Bomb Group.
Acting on this belief, I started preparing the required documents to support the nomination of Bob Waltz for this honor. It was delivered on February 26, 1996. By letter dated August 13, 2002, Ellen Waltz was informed that Robert Waltz had been selected for induction into the Arizona Aviation Hall of Fame. The induction ceremonies will take place April 5, 2003, at 6:00 P.M., at the Pima Air and Space Museum, Tucson, Arizona.
The Arizona Hall of Fame is a permanent shrine to those citizens of Arizona who have played a significant role in aviation and aerospace. It is fitting that their letter of August 13, 2002, states:
“We will be especially proud to recognize his contributions in the field of aviation."
