Tour Through the Museum Part II
by
Andy Anzanos
Last Bulletin issue in Part I the mission map and the
Marienburg Mission were covered. In this issue we will cover the Eighth Air
Force Bomb Groups display and the Munster Mission display.
Bomb Groups Display
The 8th Air Force Bomb Groups display is mounted along
side of the Mission Map that was presented in our last issue.

At the top of the display the total losses for the 8th
Air Force aircraft by type and the casualty rate of men as compared to other
major forces is shown. This points out the very heavy sacrifices.

The lower body lists 40 8th Air Force Heavy Bomber Groups
by group number, location, type of aircraft, number of missions flown,
losses and the groups markings.
Munster Mission Display
On the day after the highly successful Marienburg mission
presented in the last Bulletin issue, the 390th went to Munster. 18 aircraft
went on the mission and experienced two records - one bad and one good.
The mission suffered the record amount, in percentage,
for the number of bombers lost at eight (8 out of 18)
The mission also established a record for the 390th in
amount of enemy fighters shot down at 62 which is a record for all groups,
bomber or fighters.

The board displays the lost airplanes in phantom and with
all airplanes complete with crew, aircraft serial number and name and who
was credited with the fighters destroyed and how many. Two crews were
credited with 11 fighters destroyed each. |
