Around the Museum
What’s New?
The Museum is making every effort to add to or update the displays before our Veterans time runs out in keeping with the goal of “A Museum Built by the Veterans.”
A couple of displays have recently been added. One is an enlarged “Eighth Air Force Bomb Groups” display board that is now alongside our “Mission Map.”

Upper Part

Mid Part
The display board has all of the Eighth Air Force Heavy bomber groups displayed with the info of where located, type of bomber (B-17 or B-24), the total combat missions flown, the combat losses and the tail markings. The display information has been printed on the back side of lexon plastic which not only makes it durable but permits photographing without glass reflections. The display is 19 inches wide and almost 4 feet tall.
The other entirely new project is the addition of the crew listings in the diorama display. The board for the crews is 3 ft wide and almost 4 ft tall. Every airplane in the diorama 8 March 1944 mission to Berlin is identified by aircraft name, serial number, position in formation and entire crew listing.

Alongside Diorama
The listed display also includes the six 390th airplanes that flew with the 100th Group on this mission. These crews were led by Jerry Osadnick.

Blown-up Section
The three 390th aircraft that were shot down prior to the bomb run, as displayed, are also identified. The Group started out with a planned 21 ship formation with 17 reaching the target and then safely returning. The additional six filling in the 100th group, low squadron, all returned safely.
Among more popular Museum attractions, the “Mission Map” and the Diorama, are further enhanced by these additions.
