Volunteer in the Spotlight

Winter, 2004-2005

Our Friday docent, Dean Floerchinger, is also a University of Arizona cadet in the AFROTC program.

In the last couple of years Dean has taken part time out to serve as a wilderness guide in Wyoming's Bridger National Forest wilderness area an area he rode horses and grew up in since he was 6 years old. During his last outing his actions in saving a fellow guide from permanent injuries led to the “Silver Valor” award at the AFROTC Commander’s National Conference in Atlanta on the 16th of November.

Dean’s maternal grandfather was a bombardier on a B-17 in the 8th Air Force 385th BG, and his paternal grandfather was a pilot in the Aleutian Islands.

“I joined the AFROTC because I wanted to serve my country,” he said. Cadet Floerchinger is a sophomore majoring in political science and wants to be a pilot. We appreciate Dean’s efforts as a docent too, and are very proud of him.                   AA
