The 390th Memorial Museum is quickly taking on its new shape. The south side is awaiting its windows and finishing touches. The north side has quickly taken shape and half of the upper mezzanine level is framed in. The stunning view for guests from the mezzanine includes a new view of our plane. We have several volunteers ready to step in once construction is complete to clean the “I’ll Be Around”. Once outside exterior construction is completed, the building will be painted to match the new siding.

This week Top Cover, the famous 390th mural, was removed in order for the construction company to work on the interior east wall of the Museum. We re-discovered all the signatures on the back of the painting. Most appear to be from 1987. The most prominent one we could see was from John Warner. We will get a full picture and list of names before the painting is moved to it’s new home as it is currently in an inaccessible location due to construction. Also shown is a view from the east side of the building on the inside where Top Cover used to be located. The outside view shows the start of the framing on the north section where part of the second story mezzanine will be located.

As of Monday, April 8. We will be closed to the public until further notice (hopefully not long!). This is for the safety of our visitors and to give the construction crew full access to the inside of the museum. If you have plans to come see us soon, we hope that you can instead join us in the fall for the reunion! We will continue to post updates on the construction on both the website and Facebook. Here are some of this weeks construction pictures. The next big move project was the Nissen hut to its temporary location. It and all the displays on the north wall of the museum have now been relocated.
