Doing some research on my uncle who was in the 390th Bomb Group and was shot down over Frankfurt (I think) and spent some two years in a POW camp. His name is listed in the archives but has no additional info on him. He was a belly gunner and then went up to a side gunner in the B-17’s.
He told some great stories when he returned and even though I was only 9 I still remember many.
Hello and greetings from Lincolnshire, UK. (Known as “Bomber County.”)
I have a simple, heartfelt thank you to all surviving members and descendants of US forces that fought to ensure my freedom during World war II. I salute you all.
In August I shall visit Parham and try to demonstrate to my 10 year old grandson why his generation should also feel the same gatitude.
May our two nations always remember our shared history and love of freedom.
Regards to all.
Bob Williams.
He passed away in November last year at his home in Virginia. There will be a military service and memorial in Rochester, NY on August 1st at White Haven Memorial Park.
Feel free to contact me if you are interested in attending with my family.
How will you know where to send an answer to my inquiry if my email address does not appear in the “comment” section of the Guesstbook? What if I am asking for someone to contact me about a 390th relative, how will they or you answer me?
Great to see this. My dad flew a b-17 out of framlingham late in the war I have been to the meuseum his name and crew are on the wall there asoriginal members. He named his aircraft “My Bonnie” I am sorry i am at work and do not have more at hand.I was unable to remain a meember due to finaccial reasons.
Looking for letters written by airmen’s relatives of the 390th, sorted by years. They were on this site in Feb ‘09 but not showing up now. I have a good friend, Mary Jenkins whose husband, Darold Jenkins was the pilot of a B-1i7, Ole Smoke. She would enjoy reading many of these letters.
Great new website , The tie between our two Museums is great and very important to uphold the story of the 390th BG during ww2 and the Greatest Generation , keep up the good work .Alan Brooks , Vice Chairman , Parham Airfield Museum . UK .
