WE DIDNT TAKE IT FOR A SPIN -- Although it looks as though "Ill Be Around," the B-17G on display at the 390th Memorial Museum, went out for a flight on a cloudy southern Arizona day, its all an illusion. Mike Doe, a local resident, visited the Museum with his camcorder and captured images of the aircraft, which he modified with his computer, adding the sky that he shot one day near his Tucson home. It was no simple task to put the plane back in the air. He had to erase the landing gears, make the props spin, set it at the right angle, and give careful attention to how sunlight would reflect off the plane if it were in flight one imaginary afternoon. The prints, which Mr. Doe donated to the Museum, were printed using a dye sublimation process, which gives photo-realistic output. |
