WAR STORIES

John D. Garner

Sergeant, Tail Gunner

 Born 6/8/1924

John grew up in Gainesville, Georgia with his family.  He was the eldest of 5 brothers to serve his country in the Air Force.

After the war he returned to the states and continued his education.  It was in college that he met his future wife Leona.  They both worked in the educational field and became teachers.  John later worked as a high school principal for most of his career.

Both have since retired from teaching and now operate a horse farm.  John built the horse barn on their property.  They mostly house horses for pasture rent and currently have 64 head.  John loves to play with the horses, and show them but it does come with some work such as mending fences, hay to haul and other chores.  Not a relaxing retirement but one he enjoys.  When Leona is not helping John, she enjoys one of her hobbies of quilting.

Another favorite pass time is their current job as grandparents.  John and Leona enjoy their lives with their family and friends.

John and his wife Leona have been married for more than 50 years. They have 2 daughters and 5 grandchildren. They currently live in Dahlonega, Georgia.
