WAR STORIES

War Stories from the 390th

Perhaps one of the reasons why aerial combat personnel have been reluctant to write, or even to talk, about combat missions is that it is most difficult to express, with words alone, just what a bombing combat mission was all about. Too often, it seems, the only way a combat mission can be discussed is with someone who "has been there."

This collection is a compilation of stories of what happened at specific times and places, written by those who took an active part in making the incident happen, told in words which, we trust, may be understood by all, but if not, at least by other combat people.

An attempt has been made to protect the integrity of the authors by using their original text generally unaltered except for correcting typographical errors or the rearrangement of sentences which were unclear b
ecause of inadvertent word placement.

We hope you enjoy the stories of War in the Air some fifty odd years ago.
